About Les Chambres Chouettes
Mountain ambience ~ Catalan warmth.
Our traditional French village house has been meticulously converted to offer traditional French Chambre d'Hôtes Guest House accommodation in characterful surroundings.
Formerly the home of one of the drivers of the Train Jaune - the famous narrow gauge railway that snakes its way from Villefranche de Conflent across the Pyrenees to the Spanish border at La Tour de Carol - this spacious 3 storey building lends itself to relaxed living, with stunning views, sunny balconies and of course the invigorating mountain air of the Pyrenees.
You can walk to Fort Liberia (or take the landrover), Chapelle Notre-Dame de Vie, the Vauban fortifications and Vernet-les-Bains from our doorstep.
The restaurants, cafes and shops in the village offer something for everyone.
There is free parking close by on our quiet little street.
Getting around
It is possible to get a 1 euro bus or train to Perpignan and onwards to the coast for another euro.
The wonderful Train Jaune will take you up into the mountains; prices vary. The 1 euro bus follows a similar route to the Spanish border.
The train station is about 1100 metres walk through the cité (village) from our front door.

Fort Liberia
A luxurious apartment suite with disabled-friendly features.
This self catering suite is on the ground floor, within the thick stone walls of the original, medieval part of the house, so it is naturally cool in summer, but there is reverse air conditioning, just in case! We have designed it to be suitable for people with reduced mobility, so the doorways are all wide enough for wheelchairs and it is possible to travel all the way into the village by wheelchair, with a little bit of help up and down a couple of curbs. There is a raised toilet seat and shower seat, if needed.
It is situated on the ground floor of our traditional stone built house, just outside the walls of the Medieval village of Villefranche de Conflent, with its fine collection of bars, restaurants, craft shops and signposted walks. The railway station is 20 minutes walk and has a mainline to Perpignan as well as the wonderful narrow-gauge Train Jaune, to the ski resorts and beyond.
You will find in your welcome pack; Fresh fruit, breakfast cereals, milk, butter, homemade yoghurts and jam, plus the ingredients to make a simple evening meal.
The apartment has a superb compact kitchen, offering hob, extractor, microwave, fridge, kettle, espresso and filter coffee machines and a full complement of cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils.
For your entertainment, there is an LCD TV with access to Terrestrial TV, Fire TV and Chromecast, plus a BluRay player - all with a small HiFi connected, with a vintage FM radio. Fibre Wifi is fast, and available in all areas.
